I follow the paper trails people leave behind. They can be like Brothers Grimm bread crumbs that lead you back to a dead person’s life. 

 

So I dug into German documents, manuscripts and letters, translating the parts that National Book Award-winning author Deirdre Bair needed for her biography of psychiatrist C.G. Jung. 

 

I also visited many archives in the U.K., Germany and the U.S. for Susan Hertog’s Dangerous Ambition: Rebecca West and Dorothy Thompson.
